Martin Tzakov, CFA
Partner, Portfolio ManagerMartin Tzakov is a Partner and Portfolio Manager at Pembroke Management where he co-leads the firm’s Canadian All-Cap strategy, responsible for driving investment decisions and overseeing portfolio construction. He focuses his research on the health care and consumer sectors, bringing a long-term approach to fundamental investing. His work is rooted in analytical rigour and technical insight, combined with a genuine curiosity about business models, leadership teams, and the structural forces that drive markets over time.
Martin has helped expand Pembroke’s Canadian equity platform, increasing coverage of large-cap stocks and contributing to the development of proprietary tools that support research and decision-making. He also helped establish the firm’s internship program and remains actively involved in analyst recruitment and mentorship. His earlier tenure as backup trader provided him with a multifaceted understanding of the firm’s trading and operational functions.
Before joining Pembroke, Martin began his career at Canaccord Genuity as an Equity Research Associate covering engineering and construction—an experience that gave him a solid foundation in capital markets. His educational background and professional journey reflect a commitment to continuous learning and mentorship. He remains closely connected to Concordia University, where he is an active mentor for both the Kenneth Woods Investment Management Program and the Van Berkom Small-Cap Investment Management Program.
Outside of work, Martin is Co-President of the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation’s Winter Triathlon Organizing Committee, combining his passion for endurance sports with his dedication to community health initiatives.
